Modelling the sequential earthquake–tsunami response of coastal road embankment infrastructure

چکیده

Abstract. Transport networks in coastal, urban areas are extremely vulnerable to seismic events, with damage likely due both ground motions and tsunami loading. Most existing models analyse the performance of structures under either earthquakes or tsunamis, as isolated events. This paper presents a numerical approach that captures sequential earthquake–tsunami effects on transport infrastructure coastal area, taking into consideration combined strains two Firstly, dynamic cyclic loading is modelled, applied soil-structure system using finite-difference approximation determine differential settlement, lateral displacement liquefaction potential foundation. Next, finite-volume method approach, wave propagation flooding modelled. Finally, hydrostatic hydrodynamic loads corresponding elevation post-earthquake state structure obtain second deformation. The model an embankment Manzanillo, Mexico, which part main road; response analysed motion records 1995 Manzanillo event.

Ground Penetrating Radar Model Simulation for Detection of Coastal Embankment

In recent years, the ground penetrating radar (GPR) is increasingly used in the detection of riprap embankments. In order to analyze the costal embankment with explosive compaction, model experiments are conducted to investigate the influence of seawater on the signal and image of GPR, especially to figure out the image variation of riprap bottom boundary. The influence of immersion of seawater...

Is manure an alternative to topsoil in road embankment restoration?

One of the main steps in road and railway embankment restoration is the spreading of previously removed topsoil, which provides an input of seeds, organic matter and microorganisms and encourages the establishment of a vegetation cover, essential to stabilise the embankment and blend it with the landscape. However, topsoil is a scarce resource, prompting the search for economic alternatives wit...

Topological Characteristics of the Dutch Road Infrastructure

In this paper we study an example of a complex network, namely the road infrastructure of the Netherlands. In order to investigate the factors influencing the robustness of the complex network under consideration, we calculate a set of generic topological characteristics, related to the connectivity, degree, clustering and the shortest path length. Along with these widely considered topological...

Infrastructure modelling

Purpose – This literature review provides an overview of the traditional and green supply chain structures, an overview of the traditional and green performance measures and measurement systems. The supply chain infrastructure modelling is discussed from the strategic point of view, e.g. facility location. Different supply chain design models with single and multiple objectives are discussed. T...

Modelling the global coastal ocean.

Shelf and coastal seas are regions of exceptionally high biological productivity, high rates of biogeochemical cycling and immense socio-economic importance. They are, however, poorly represented by the present generation of Earth system models, both in terms of resolution and process representation. Hence, these models cannot be used to elucidate the role of the coastal ocean in global biogeoc...
